Here is another excerpt from one of the chapters of my novel called Dreams Of The Past.
Prologue
Outside of the house in Chicago Illinois
Anne just got off working as a secretary from an office and decided that she wanted to go home and cook something to eat real quickly. Before she had to do anything else that she needed to do for herself.
When she got to her home from walking a couple of blocks, she went inside her home after unlocking the door, and went to the kitchen after the door was closed, to fix something to eat for herself.
She knows the mail does not arrive until later in the afternoon since she works in the mornings every day except for the weekends she has the days off including Friday.
After she grabbed something to eat, she drank her juice and then left the kitchen to go grab one of the books on the shelves that was in her living room. After she grabbed the book, She went to lie down on the couch and read her book.
She is too intense with her book, and being engrossed in it so much, she forgot that the doorbell was ringing.
Until the last minute, where she put her book on the side of the couch, after marking her place and went to answer the door. To find a mailman giving her an envelope, with a seal on the back, that looked like a coat of arms from Scotland.
She thought this was weird, until the man immediately bid her a good day, and left right away, which she thought it was weird as she yelled out to him “WHAT ABOUT MY OTHER MAIL THIS ISN’T MINE COME BACK AND TAKE THIS.”
When she did not hear an answer back, she sighed and went back inside her home, after closing her door to her house, and went into the living room.
While still looking at the envelope, and realized that it was addressed to her, with her address on it. She wondered who sent it to her, she was curious she turned the envelope over, and looked at the seal of the coat of arms.
She decided to open it and when she opened the seal of the back of the envelope, she found a letter that looked old to her or had a different kind of paper.
Anne did not recognize but when she took, it out it had her name on the latter and she began to read the letter from the envelope that contained it inside the envelope.
Anne knew once she read the letter that it must be from someone that knows her. What she found out was that it was from her estranged uncle, that she has never known before.
Since her parents passed away a long time ago and she is the only one alive from the car crash that happened to her parents, and was an orphan.
Anne still is reading the letter and continued to think more about the estranged uncle she has now that he knows about her and realized that he wants her on a flight to the island of Mull. With being on her way when she gets there to his castle on the third and final day of her flight.
Because the letter from her uncle told her, it was the up most importance. She will have to be at the castle where he lives, at and will be waiting for her.
Anne continued to read the letter, she found out from her estranged uncle that he sent a ticket in the envelope along with the letter to get her on the plane. On the third and final day because he wanted to see her soon and have her live with him.
When she was done reading the letter she held it in her arm, while using her hand to take the airplane ticket out and see the ticket that she was going to be going to the airport at. She reached the airport and head towards the island of Mull and straight to her estranged uncle’s castle.
She is done looking at the ticket, she put the letter and ticket back in the envelope and set it on the table. Where she will easily find it on the second day and put it somewhere that she will take it and remember where it is at.
Anne realized that it might be a nice and maybe cool place to be away from home and since she found out that she also has to live there. She decided tonight after dinner she will start packing a little bit.
She has to finish it tomorrow night and then she will be ready to grab the envelope and the ticket from where she put it at. she has to walk to her car with all her suitcases and bags and take them to the airport with her and have them on the plane with her.
Later that night after she ate her dinner she decided to go upstairs and grab all the suitcases and bags she could find and pack all of them half way through before she had to go to bed.
As soon as that was done she went and got ready for bed, and then went to sleep while dreaming of the perfect place that she was going to be at.
The next morning when she decided to wake up at 6 am compared to seven or 8 am she decided to find some clothes and get herself and her hair ready for work.
Then when she got home, she can finish finally packing to know that everything is packed. She took her car to work this time instead of walking and decided that today she will continue to work until closing time.
Which will be, at 10 to 11 pm at night, because she also wanted, to ask her boss at the firm? If she could get a month off, since she has been working so hard and hoped, he will say yes to her question.
She arrived at work, she parked her car in her usual spot then she walked in to head for the elevator after passing the secretary at the main level of the firm.
After waving hi to her friend before she left for the elevator, she pressed the button on the side of the elevator. She waited for the elevator to be down to the main floor known as the lobby where she is.
Once she heard the elevator get to the main lobby floor where she is at, she sighed out of relief from waiting so long.
In addition, when the elevator dinged she immediately got into the elevator once the doors open and when they closed. She pressed the button inside the elevator that could take her to the top floor. Where she works as a secretary for her boss and does errands for him as well.
When the elevator took her to the floor, dinged, and opened its doors she walked into the top floor after the elevator doors closed.
She went straight for her office which is near her boss’s office, she walked inside it. she needed to do her usual work that she usually does when she is work and doing stuff for her boss.
She is in the middle of her work that she had to do for her boss, she heard the boss call for her from his speakerphone. Then he asked her to come inside his office because he has stuff that he needs her to do for him.
She left her stuff that she had to do for her boos on the desk she walked out of her office that is near her boss’s office and left to head to her boss’s office where he will be waiting for her.
When she walked into her boss’s office she waited until he looked up from his papers that he is working on and when he did he motioned her to come closer to his desk. Then she watched as he got up from his desk and walked to the side of his desk. And stood on the side of the desk.
He said, “Anne what I want you to do today is file these folders and papers that I done working on besides working on manning the phones when I get calls for appointments!" "I want you to take this envelope and have one of the other people working on this high level of the building to go and take the envelope to the second floor, that needs this envelope can you do that for me Anne!"
Anne looked at him said “alright but I have something to say after I am done working for you before it is time for me to leave work!" "And it is a very important matter that I need to discuss with you Mr. Robinson.”
Her boss looked at her, he said, “Fine I will hear what you have to say once you’re done with the errands and the tasks I ask you to do by the end of the day!" "Before you leave work alright, so why don’t you go back to your office after I hand you these files and papers!" "As well as this envelope ok Anne.”
Anne nodded her head yes at her boss and said “fine I will head back to my office since you handed me these files and papers, and the envelope you wanted delivered from someone else on this floor ok. But I am happy that you agreed to talk to me about the important matter that I need to discuss with you at the end of the day.”
He nodded and after that Anne left his office and went back to her office to file the papers and folders with the files in them. While after that was done to manning the phones just in case anyone called for an appointment with her boss.
She filed the papers and folders that had the files in them she just was manning the phones. Until she remembered that she had to get someone to take the envelope and head down the elevator to the second floor.
She said bye to one of the clients that wanted an appointment with her boss and after making that appointment. She got up from her chair in her office and left after she grabbed the envelope to head to one of the workers that is available. To take the envelope that her boss wanted to get to the second floor.
She finally found one of the co-workers after asking if anyone wanted to take the envelope down to the second floor for her and half of them said no.
Anne asked the final person, “Hey Rick I was wondering if you can take this envelope to the second floor for me please!" When the man known as Rick looked at her he smirked said “Sure anything for you Anne!"
Anne smiled at him as he took the envelope and turned around to head back to her office once she realized that he left for the elevator to head to the second floor.
When she, got to the office, sat down, and was beginning to relax, she is suddenly hearing more than one phone ringing.
Instead of relaxing, she ended up answering more than one phone to make appointments for her boss for the whole month. Just from everyone calling to have an appointment and a meeting with him.
When she finally hung up at the last call.
She finally relaxed and went outside of her office to get a bottle of water from the water machine.
When she soon got a bottle of water from the water machine she was walking back to her office when she realized the time. She knew that now everyone was getting ready to leave for home because it was soon ending the day where the workers had to work.
She knew she had to go straight to her boss’s office to talk to him about the matter that was important and that she needs a whole month or more for a vacation. She knows that she has indeed earned having the right to, ask him about it.
When she went straight to her boss’s office, she knocked on his door and heard him say come in. He looked up from his work as he noticed she stood in front of his desk he realized, she had something to say that is important for him to hear from her.
She said, “Mr. Robinson I would like to say something to you and that is that I need time off preferably five months is more!" "Because I think!" "I have earned it more than anything else since I have worked here." "And it would be very good and great for you!" "If you could at least give me time off since I have been working here for more than one year or two so what do you say can I have time off or not”.
Her boss looked at her said “Anne if you want to go I am not stopping you I think you have earned it today and any other day!" "So far because you have been working here for not only the first or two to three years!" "However, you have been working here more than that and yes you deserve your time off." I just get a substitute, until you come back alright!”
Anne smiled however, she knew she had to tell him something else that is in the letter, that she hoped he did not have to worry about or get mad at her about it.
Anne said “However, Mr. Robinson there is something I also have to tell you the vacation you just granted me has to do with me living in somewhere else!" "Not living here anymore. Because of my relative, that I have just known about wants me to live with him!" "Since he found out I am an orphan. "I have grown up by myself, now wants me to live with him!" "So that was the other thing, I wanted to tell you about!" "I just didn’t know how to tell you; about this piece of the news, because I was worried that this piece of news will change your mind, about letting me go!" "I do get to go on my vacation that I need to go on please!"
Her boss Mr. Robinson looked at her sighed and said, “I guess since you’re going to live there and we have become good friends Anne!" "Well I think you should follow your heart and do what’s right!" In "Possibly can visit back here, someday since I have to look, for a new replacement!" "Now since you are going away and possibly living where you are going. I just hope everything works out for the best!" "I will send you my regards!" "I will tell you to go for it, so just go for it. And grab your stuff, and go before anything else happens today!" "And I need you for Anne!"
Anne nodded her head yes, but smiled with tears in her eyes that were about to come out if she did not leave his office right now.
Anne walked to him from the few feet she had, she gave him a hug which he returned and afterwards she left his office to go to her office and pack all her things that she had in a box.
When that was done she carried the box with her along with her purse to the elevator, and pushed the button to open the elevator doors when both come open for her to go in them.
Anne went inside the elevator and when the doors closed, she pushed the button to get to the lobby of the main floor. Where she could get out of the building and go home to finish the rest up of packing all her things. Before she goes tomorrow morning very early to the airport.
When the elevator finally got to the main floor of the building.
Then opened its doors she walked straight from the elevator to head outside the lobby doors to her car and go home to finish packing her things before she heads anywhere else in her home to go to sleep.
When she got home from driving her car to work, she parked her car and carried her box that was in the backseat from the car, and headed straight for her front door.
She unlocked her front door to her home, she put the box down and at the entryway and closed the door.
When she was inside her home and walked further inside her home and when she got to the stairs she decided to finish packing the rest of her things to finish. Then she was going to go downstairs to eat and grab something to drink.
Afterwards head upstairs to go to bed while remembering that she put the envelope in the right place where she will remember to find it.
