Oops... Dispersion wasn't the first thing 'D' made me think of. There was this guy I made up last year called Dragon (Dee to people who like irritating him). He's... not necessarily random, but definitely psycho. This is him: He's not sure if he ever wants me to finish his story, because so far he's spent three years in an enemy prison, almost been killed and then possibly permanently crippled... Also, I would take away his favourite weapon, because it belongs to Merlin. Dee's just going to have to have something else. And of course now I suddenly want to write about him...

Thanks Marie. I'm doing okay with WC for the year . Not so good for MarNo, though . I'm really struggling to find the time to write at the moment, and finding time to edit is even worse. I can try to write the same number of words in a shorter amount of time, but there's no way to compress the number of hours needed for EdMo. I've decided I hate vampires, too. Either you wonder what's the point of calling them vampires because they just act like nocturnal people or else you have to delve into the whole feeding issue and it gets kind of icky. I'm basically going to write down al lthe things I actually still like about Fangs and let them stew away in the bottom of my brain and see if I can come up with something better than vampires. I still like Dispersion's chemically-enhanced super-soldiers, though, even after spending almost two months with them. I still like the people in Blade's Edge, too, even though I'm really going to have to file that one as a romance/spy novel rather than the zombie horror I thought it was. It's finally heating up, too. Er... the spying part, not the romance. Mikey and his Dream Girl already got the romance pretty much sorted out, so we can move onto the saving-the-galaxy part. So... editing one, writing two. I'm also planning two, which are demanding equal billing for April rather than one of them being relegated to a side project. That probably means a cumulative goal for April Fools of 2x35k and no real chance of finishing either of them. I guess I can continue them into May, though. Hey, that means I'd get Elgard for my birthday after all...

So I should wait to read Fangs? Or should I read it, and then give some input on the species? And that sounds a bit hetic, but I know you can do it!

Louisa, you can read Fangs when/if ever you feel like it. I haven't really made any interesting changes with the editing. It's one of those stories where reading through it made me realise that it's really not very good. I mean, there's this scene where all the characters sit around and basically complain about how terrible my plot is. I felt like copying the start of that and then sticking myself in there with them to see if they can help me fix it up...
*wonders if she can count that as editing...*
If anyone has any suggestions of something better than vampires, go ahead. Coming up with something fun for me might even give me enough enthusiasm to have a go at catching up on EdMo. I'm about 5 hours behind at the moment.
It can't be werewolves, by the way. Fangs already has a werewolf and I think he can stay. He's pretty much my favourite character. How can you not love a guy who turns up in the story like this:

I'm thinking about changing Blade's name.
Why? Well, because vampires called Blade tend to look more like Wesley Snipes. This is what my Blade looked like when he was introduced:
He has green eyes, which didn't come into the initial description. Anyway, re the name change... I've been thinking about other places guys like that have turned up and I found this:
Total random snip from something that only goes for about another half a page. Frost is also practically identical to Toby, who's going to be in April Fools, but apart from the eye colour he's similar enough to Blade that Frost was the first alternate name that came to mind...
Also, I might have thought about incorporating a few 'Frosty the old man' references... Creepy songs and kids stories are a bit of a theme in Fangs.
Wow, long post. Er... basically, if I start talking about Frost you'll know the name change stuck. It probably will - he's never been that fond of Blade.

Well, if you mean Fangs, it's in my swaps thread as the untitled vampire story. The 'Van and Frost' thing isn't a novel at all but might be one day.
Surprisingly, the name change seems to be working (I'm having a go at some rewriting, so it's not just find & replace). Frost doesn't seem to be the same guy, though, which is odd. The differences are only slight so far, but I think the second draft of Fangs is going to be very different to the first...
This is Frost in the same spot as Blade was just up the page:

Ah, yes, Fangs. That would be it.
(By the way, it's great!)
Uhh...I would say nice excerpt, but it's not exactly the normal definition of nice...Well-written excerpt!

Thanks, Mars.
Yes, there's a lot of fun-but-not-exactly-nice in that story. I really liked the part where Blade dragged a guy into a deserted warehouse, tied him up with electrical cable and started taking his blood. In the medical sense, as in with a needle and a tube and a bag that slowly fills up...
Well, liked isn't really the word. I'm really interested to see how Frost goes with that scene. I guess I'll be continuing this edit/rewrite beyond March after all.
